Frequently asked questions
Everything about how Home Unpacked tests and scores home and kitchen tools.
How do you score home products?
We compare build, price, and warranty against the alternatives, and weigh what long-term owners report. Each product is then rated 1 to 5 on ease of use, features, value for money, and support. The overall score is the average of those four on a 10-point scale.
Do you personally use every product you review?
No, and we will not pretend otherwise. Scores come from build and warranty comparisons, pricing, and what owners report after months of daily use.
Are your reviews independent, or do brands pay for better scores?
Independent. Commissions keep the site running and stop there. No brand has ever seen a score before publication or changed one after.
What do the four score pillars mean?
Ease of use covers assembly, everyday handling, and how annoying it is to clean. Features asks whether it does what a busy household needs. Value compares it to the cheaper model beside it. Support means warranty, replacement parts, and how the brand behaves when something fails.
How often are reviews updated?
We return to a review when a manufacturer ships a new model or quietly changes the build, since a home product review is only useful if it describes the one on sale now.
Do you earn money from the links on this site?
Yes. Some links are affiliate links and may pay us a commission at no extra cost to you - the disclosure page covers it in full.
Can I suggest a product for you to review?
Yes - the contact page reaches us directly, and a surprising number of our reviews started as a reader's question.
Can I leave my own review or comment?
Yes. Every review, comparison, and guide has a discussion section at the bottom, and two years of someone else's daily use is worth reading.
