AT&T Fiber
Every gadget we review on this site is only as good as the connection behind it, and fiber is the version of that connection you stop thinking about. AT&T Fiber's pitch is simple and mostly true: symmetric upload and download speeds, no data caps, equipment included, no annual contract. When your address qualifies, it's one of the easiest yes-decisions in home tech. The catch is the word 'when' - availability is a street-by-street lottery, and AT&T's non-fiber fallback products are a very different experience.
Why we rate it
- Symmetric speeds - uploads as fast as downloads, which cable rivals still rarely match
- No data caps on fiber plans, and the Wi-Fi gateway is included in the price
- No annual contract; pricing is flat rather than teaser-rate-then-spike
Keep in mind
- Availability is the whole ballgame - fiber covers only part of AT&T's territory, checked address by address
